Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16

Shut up. Just SHUT UP.

No, not you. Me. I talk too much. I know this. As the cliché goes, God blessed me with two ears and one mouth for a reason. I learn when I listen, and I can’t listen while I’m talking.

This week, I’m going to intentionally talk less and listen more, speaking only when I have something of value to say.

Speaking only when it’s true, only when it’s helpful, only when it’s kind.

As for the rest of the time, I’d be better served to listen.

I’d rather be known as someone who says a lot with few words than someone who speaks often but says little.

sticky note on desk that reads "quiet: wise as a serpent, gentle as a dove"
“Word of the week” sticky note on my desk

“Wise as a serpent, gentle as a dove.”

It’s a great big world with lots to learn. It’s time I shut up and listen. As I head off to work this week, I’m going to keep a careful tongue. I just want to see what happens.

Stayed tuned. This should be interesting.
